The ring may fit more snugly than others you've worn in the past. Also, I'm betting you took those other rings off periodically, where as you're probably leaving your wedding band on all or most of the time.
The best solutions would be to take your ring off when you wash & dry your hands to make sure it's dry underneath. Also, try to make sure chemicals don't get on your hands and if they do, wash your hands as soon as possible after handling them. Also, take your ring off at night when you're home to let the skin breathe. Also, apply hydrocortisone cream at night before going to bed.
If the above suggestions don't work, try talking to your doctor; you may have some sort of skin condition that's being aggrivated by you wearing a ring often.

I agree with others that you should just ask your Mom. Everyone grieves differently and it's her call how she wants to spend that day. If you want when you call you can offer some suggestions… dinner and going to the grave, just a dinner, a small party, a big party. It's really whatever she wants. Just let her know that you want to acknowledge the day but that you (and your brother) will do whatever she wants. Also let her know that she has the right to change her mind about it at any time. (She may right now feel like having a small party and then decide as the date gets closer that that would be painful… or vice versa).

If it was a good saddle (with proper silver), I would do as zephina mentioned but since it's a cheaper saddle with fake silver, then you probably won't have to do anything.
I have a cheap saddle for everyday riding for the last 2 years and the fake silver is still looking like new. But you have to keep the saddle dry and in a good enviroment. Leaving it damp and dirty won't help.
Don't use silver polishes or other cleaning products on cheap, fake silver as they will remove the protective coating and cause the plating to lift.
